Heavy Garage Door Diagnosis | Valiant Garage Door
A garage door that suddenly becomes difficult to lift should not be pushed through another cycle. The useful question is why its support or movement changed, not whether a stronger opener can pull it anyway.
A Suddenly Heavy Garage Door Is a Lifting-System Warning
Stop using a door that appears to have lost counterbalance or becomes unusually heavy. Leave raised or unstable doors supported as found and do not pull the emergency release as a trial when spring or cable failure is suspected.

Check Counterbalance Before Blaming the Opener
A technician separates spring support problems from binding rollers, damaged tracks or cable faults. The opener is assessed after the door's mechanical condition is understood, so motor settings do not mask resistance in the lifting system.
Do Not Turn a Heavy Door Into a Manual-Lifting Test
Tell the technician whether the change was sudden, followed a repair or developed gradually. Note any added panels or other door changes already documented; spring selection depends on the actual door, not just the garage opening size.
Do not demonstrate the weight by lifting an unsafe door. A description of what happened, the current door position and photos from outside the movement path are sufficient to begin scheduling an assessment.
It would not correct a failed or mismatched counterbalance system. Diagnose the door's support and movement before considering an opener change.
Can I release the opener to check the door's weight?
Not when damage or loss of spring support is suspected. An unsupported door can move unexpectedly; leave this assessment to a trained technician.
Why did the door become heavy after other work?
Several conditions could be responsible, including changes to the door or lifting hardware. Share the prior work record so the technician can inspect rather than assume a cause.
