Can replacing a garage door spring send you to the emergency room?
Yes. A torsion spring stores enough energy to lift a garage door weighing hundreds of pounds. The wrong winding bar, an unsecured set screw, an incorrect winding direction, or a slipping tool can release that energy instantly and strike hands, the face, or nearby property.
What to watch for in the footage
The winding cone and set screws are the points where stored torque is controlled.
Professional winding bars must fit the cone correctly and remain fully seated.
The spring, shaft, drums, cables, and end bearings must be evaluated as one system.
A replacement spring must match the door weight, track configuration, and expected cycle life.
Safety note: One wrong move can become an emergency-room visit. Do not loosen winding-cone set screws, cable drums, bottom brackets, or lift cables unless you are trained, properly equipped, and able to secure the door and shaft.
