What should be checked when a LiftMaster opener is not working normally?
Start with the opener’s power and diagnostic lights, then check the rail and door connection, travel limits, safety-reversal behavior, and both photo-eye sensors near the floor. The door’s springs, cables, rollers, and tracks also matter because an opener cannot compensate safely for a mechanically binding or unbalanced door.
What to watch for in the footage
Confirm the opener is powered and note any diagnostic light pattern.
Inspect the rail, trolley, door arm, and ceiling supports for looseness or movement.
Verify both photo-eye sensors are aligned, unobstructed, and showing normal indicator lights.
Check whether the door moves smoothly before assuming the motor is the only problem.
Safety note: Sensor wiring is low-voltage, but the opener should be unplugged before handling conductors. Never bypass the photo eyes. For a wiring-focused walkthrough, use the dedicated LiftMaster-compatible safety sensor guide.
